Popular auction website, eBay, surprised the technology sector this week when it banned porn. The ban affects hentai porn and porn games, mostly, but also has some consequences for print magazines which feature nudity.
Hentai porn game lovers around the world sighed simultaneously in sadness as eBay banned porn games. I’m kidding, we have tons of free porn games here, so no one cares that much. But the ban does have some rather significant consequences for an industry that’s continued to soar, particularly after gaining acceptance on Steam’s mainstream platform. eBay’s move comes shorty after Apple and Epic attorneys bizarrely battled over Epic’s alledged allowance of porn.
eBay’s porn ban includes any items with an X or RC classification. Any game or product depticting nudity, including anime and hentai porn, got the axe. This is a far reaching policy change that likely results in the removal of thousands of magazines, porn games, and movies. But not sex toys, eBay will keep those listed. Also, some books and collectibles that feature porn may remain.
From the eBay policy page update:
“We want to make adult items available to those who wish to purchase them and can do so legally, while preventing those who do not wish to view or purchase these items from easily accessing them.”
eBay’s move prompted accusations of censorship as they recover from the Dr. Seuss book ban from a mere month ago. Society today is sensitive to what’s being termed “cancel culture,” so banning anything, including porn, prompts divisive social media debate.
In fact some went so far as to say that eBay used the “porn ban” to discriminate against the lesbian and gay community.
In general, censorship tends to cause more harm than good, as the above Tweet displays.
The good news is, we have free hentai porn games at the ready. So really, we don’t need you eBay.
